When snapping a photo or video from the camera, it will upload it to the photos and save it in your files. It has an unlimited ---amount of photos and will be ending the unlimited storage for non-google or non-android devices. You can also set up one as your google profile pic or send it to someone you want to show. You can also create albums, here is an example: You just came back from a vacation to Costa Rica and you wanted to create an album for the photos that got uploaded. Just click create new album and type in the title then, you can select the photos that you snapped in Costa Rica then save it in the albums

Speaking of syncing files from your phone to Photos, make sure Google isn’t eating up your monthly mobile data allotment with its ongoing backups. Open up the app’s settings on your phone, select “Back up & sync,” and check that the toggles for both “Photos” and “Videos” are deactivated under the “Cellular data backup” section.
